This course provides a detailed theoretical overview of baggage handling operations and systems within airport environments. It covers every stage of the baggage journey—from check-in and screening to sorting, loading, transfer, and arrival. Participants will gain a strong understanding of baggage processes, international standards, technologies used in modern airports, and best practices to minimize mishandling while ensuring safety and operational efficiency. This course is ideal for individuals working in airport operations, ground handling, airline services, and aviation support functions.

Module 1: Introduction to Baggage Handling Services (1 Hour)

Module 2: Types of Baggage and Classification (1 Hour)

•          Checked, cabin, transit, and transfer baggage

•          Special baggage (fragile, sports, medical, pets)

•          Irregular baggage categories

 Module 3: Baggage Check-In Procedures (1 Hour)

•          Manual and automated check-in

•          Self-service kiosks & bag drops

•          Bag tagging: barcode & RFID

Module 4: Baggage Security Screening (1 Hour)

•          ICAO Annex 17 & IATA standards

•          X-ray, EDS, ETD equipment

•          Handling prohibited and suspicious items

 Module 5: Baggage Handling Systems (BHS) (1.5 Hours)

•          Conveyors, scanners, and sortation systems

•          Early Baggage Storage (EBS)

•          Baggage Information Systems (BIS)

•          Tracking technologies (WorldTracer, RFID)

Module 6: Sorting and Loading Procedures (1.5 Hours)

•          Automated vs. manual sorting

•          Priority baggage processes

•          Make-up areas and ULD preparation

•          Passenger–baggage reconciliation

 Module 7: Transfer and Transit Operations (1 Hour)

•          Interline vs. intraline baggage

•          Tight connection management

•          Reducing transfer baggage delays

 Module 8: Arrival Baggage Operations (1 Hour)

•          Offloading procedures

•          Baggage carousel operations

•          Lost & found processes

•          Handling delayed or damaged bags

 Module 9: Safety and Compliance (1 Hour)

•          Ramp safety procedures

•          Ergonomic & manual handling safety

•          Hazard identification and risk prevention
