EASA Part-66 Examination
EASA Part-66 examinations are standardized, modular tests required for certifying aircraft maintenance engineers. Candidates must successfully complete multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and specific essay examinations, with a required 75% pass mark. The syllabus consists of 17 modules, covering areas such as basic sciences, aerodynamics, human factors, and specialized aircraft systems.
Key Examination Features
Format:
MCQs consist of 3 answer choices, with only 1 correct answer. There is no penalty for incorrect answers.
Time Limits:
Candidates are typically allocated 75 seconds per MCQ. Calculators are generally not permitted.
Essay Requirements:
Module 7 (Maintenance Practices) includes written essay examinations with a required 75% pass mark.
Retake and Remedial Rules
First & Second Failure:
Candidates may retake a failed module after 90 days, or after 30 days if a recognized remedial course has been successfully completed.
Third Failure:
Candidates must wait 12 months from the date of the first attempt within a 12-month period before taking the examination again.
These are known as Part-66 modules and are divided according to different aircraft maintenance license categories, such as:
Category B1.1 (Aero-plane – Turbine)
This license category covers turbine-powered aero-plane mechanical maintenance. The required knowledge modules are as specified under Part-66 Appendix I.
Category B2 (Avionics)
This license category covers electrical and avionics systems on both aero-planes and helicopters. The required knowledge modules are as specified under Part-66 Appendix I.
Category B1.3 (Helicopter – Turbine)
This license category covers turbine-powered helicopter mechanical maintenance. The required knowledge modules are as specified under Part-66 Appendix I.
